If you’ve been struggling with loose, sagging skin on your upper arms (commonly referred to as “bat wings”), I know what you’re going through! Whether due to aging, weight loss, or genetics, this frustrating body issue often can’t be fixed with exercise alone. Arm lift surgery can help you achieve smoother, firmer upper arms and give you the confidence to wear sleeveless clothes and swimwear once again.
What is Arm Lift Surgery?
Arm lift surgery, or brachioplasty, is a cosmetic procedure that creates a more toned and contoured upper arm by removing loose skin and stubborn fat. The surgery involves making an incision along the inside of the arm, from the armpit to the elbow, to remove excess tissue and tighten the skin.
Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Lift Surgery?
If you’re bothered by loose, sagging skin on your upper arms and are in overall good health, you might be a candidate for arm lift surgery. Some patients pursue this procedure after significant weight loss, while others seek to address the effects of aging. Either way, if your goal is to achieve a more defined upper arm contour, brachioplasty could be the right choice for you.
What is the Arm Lift Procedure Like?
Arm lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia, so you will get to sleep through the whole procedure. During the surgery, I’ll make an incision along the inner arm, remove any excess fat and loose skin, and tighten the remaining skin to give your arms a smoother and leaner contour. After a brief recovery period in our facility, you’ll be able to return home the same day.
What Should I Expect for the Recovery and Results?
After your arm lift, expect some swelling and bruising which may last up to a few weeks. Most patients will need at least 3 to 4 days off work, or more if your job is physically demanding. You’ll need to limit range of motion for your arms and follow given weight-lifting restrictions for several weeks, which could impact your work, household, and childcare responsibilities. Don’t hesitate to ask for help while you heal. You’ll also need to avoid strenuous exercise for about 6 weeks.
Once you’ve healed, you’ll be able to enjoy significantly tighter, firmer, and better-contoured upper arms, with no sign of your former bat wings! With no more jiggle, you may find yourself brimming with confidence as you rifle through the back of your closet for those sleeveless tops you’ve been wanting to wear again one day. And as long as you maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle, your arm lift results should last many years—possibly even decades!
