Improve breast size and body contour

About Breast Reduction Surgery

Enhance your figure with breast reduction surgery. A breast reduction corrects overly large breasts and restores a more natural and balanced appearance. To improve your feminine contours, we can perform breast reduction surgery and give you your perfect breast size and shape.

Candidates

Any healthy, adult woman who is not currently pregnant may be a candidate for breast reduction. Candidates are usually at least 19 years old (to allow for full breast development), and their breasts are usually overly large for their body size and/or preferences. Some candidates report adverse lifestyle effects from their oversized breasts, such as chronic pain, shoulder grooves, shortness of breath, and limitations on daily activities and exercise. Women may also be candidates for breast reduction if one breast is significantly larger than the lateral breast.

Techniques

Breast reduction surgery involves the surgical removal of excess tissue to improve breast appearance, size, and shape. Breast tissue will usually be removed through an incision that goes around the areola and extends down to the crease, sometimes also with an incision along the base of the breast. Depending on your needs, your breast reduction may be combined with a breast lift to correct saggy-appearing, oversized breasts.

Preparing for Surgery

You should be in good health and at a stable body weight prior to undergoing this surgery. If you are receiving treatment for any chronic health conditions, you will need to request clearance from your primary care physician. You will also need to get a mammogram, EKG, and basic blood work to evaluate your health in anticipation of a successful procedure and healthy recovery. You will also need to plan for adequate time off work and arrange for assistance during your recovery, especially for activities such as driving, household responsibilities, and childcare.

Recovery After Surgery

Most patients can expect approximately 7 to 14 days of downtime after a breast reduction. If you elect to receive a breast lift along with your breast reduction, the recovery may be longer. On average, patients can return to normal daily activities in around 2 weeks. Weightlifting and strenuous exercises can usually be resumed after 4 to 6 weeks. During recovery, you may need to limit your work responsibilities and seek assistance for basic household responsibilities and childcare. Underwire bras should not be worn for at least 4 weeks after the procedure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect for my breast reduction scars?

Breast reduction scars typically encircle the areola and extend vertically downward to the breast crease (lollipop scar). Some patients will also have a horizontal scar extending along the breast crease in addition to those left by the lollipop incision (anchor scar). The incision type will depend on the shape and size of your breasts, how much correction is necessary, and whether you will also be receiving a breast lift. Your scar’s appearance and length will depend on these factors as well as your body’s natural healing process. Most breast reduction scars fade significantly over time.

What size breasts should I have?

Your ideal breast size will be determined by a combination of factors, including your body type, current breast size, and your desires. Our goal is to help you achieve the perfect breast size that will give you what you want while enhancing your breast shape and body contours.

Can I get a breast lift with my breast reduction?

Many women who desire breast reduction also wish to correct breast sagging. The latest surgical techniques in breast reduction surgery can make the breasts appear more perky in addition to making them smaller and less heavy. For those with especially saggy breasts, I frequently combine breast lift and breast reduction surgeries to achieve a more ideal breast size, shape, and position so that your figure appears proportionate, natural, and youthful.

Can a breast reduction reduce the size of my areolas?

Breast reduction surgery can reduce the size of overstretched areolas and improve their shape and position.

Can breast reduction correct breast asymmetry?

A breast reduction can be performed to correct uneven breasts and restore a more balanced appearance. Careful resizing and shaping of one or both breasts can greatly improve breast symmetry.

I have symptomatic large breasts. Can breast reduction help me?

Heavy, large breasts can cause a range of symptoms that may affect a woman’s health and quality of life. These symptoms include chronic pain, shoulder grooves from overtaxed bra straps, poor posture, rashes or chafing along the base of the breasts, shortness of breath, and even limitations on exercise and daily activities due to pain or poor maneuverability. Breast reduction surgery has been proven to be able to correct most (if not all) of these symptoms and can significantly improve quality of life.

How long will my breast reduction results last?

Breast reduction results are expected to last a long time, especially if you maintain a healthy body weight after surgery. Future aging, weight fluctuations, and pregnancies can all affect breast size, shape, and position. Maintaining a healthy and stable body weight is recommended to ensure the best long-term results.
