Breast augmentation is such an exciting step toward achieving your aesthetic goals! While recovery from major surgery may seem daunting, a few tips can help ensure your healing process is smooth and stress-free. Here’s what you need to know about getting back to feeling your best after breast augmentation surgery.

Plan for Some Downtime

Expect about 7 to 10 days of downtime after breast augmentation. During this time, it’s important that you rest and avoid strenuous activities. You may feel well enough to return to work after one week, depending on the nature of your job. If your role involves heavy lifting or significant physical activity, you will need to temporarily adjust your responsibilities until you’re ready for more demanding exercise (see below).

Ease Back into Exercise

It’s natural to want to jump back into your fitness routine, but taking it slow is crucial. Your body needs time to recover! For most patients, light activities (such as walking) can be resumed after a few days to promote circulation. Most other exercises can be reintroduced after 3 to 4 weeks, but weightlifting and other strenuous activities should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. Listen to your body and follow your surgeon’s recommendations for a safe return to exercise.

Ask for Help at Home

While you’re recovering, it’s a good idea to seek assistance with basic household responsibilities and childcare. Tasks like heavy lifting, cleaning, and even bending over can strain your body and disrupt healing. Having support in place will help you focus on resting and recovering so that you don’t overdo it and set yourself back.

Skip the Underwire Bras

After surgery, your breasts will need time to heal and settle unimpeded into their new position. To help them out, you’ll need to avoid wearing underwire bras for at least 4 weeks, as they can irritate incision sites and interfere with healing. Stick to soft, supportive bras recommended by your surgeon until you’re given the go-ahead to buy some new underwire bras.
